Frequently Asked Questions
Here are some commonly asked questions about the extension and it's usage.
- Firefox disappears after I click the Ghostfox icon in the status bar. How do I get it back?
- Firefox is supposed to disappear when you click the Ghostfox icon. In order to get it back first set another application as the active window (by clicking on that window). Then move your mouse pointer to the left edge of your monitor, then to the right edge, and back to the left edge. This should make Firefox appear as a part of the active application.
- I get an "Emulation Confusion" message when I do the left-right-left mouse gesture.
- This is because no window was active when you tried the left-right-left motion. Usually, clicking 'No' ('Ok' in older versions) on the "Emulation Confusion" window, selecting an application, and trying the left-right-left again should be sufficient. However, you can also rectify this by clicking on the window in which you wish to render firefox and then perform the left-right-left.
- When I enable Ghostfox, the pages all immediately go greyish and the images dont load. Ghostfox is breaking my Firefox. What do i do?
- It is the functionality of Ghostfox to render pages in such a manner. These settings can be changed using the Ghostfox Setting window, as outlined in the Using page.
- I accidentally changed browser defaults; I accidentally set the grey theme as browser default. How do I restore my Firefox settings?
- With the release of Ghostfox 0.2.1.0, you can simply goto the options box and click "The Panic/Ghostfox broke my Firefox/Restore Default firefox colour preferences button", and have Ghostfox automatically restore your colour settings to Firefox defaults.
- Firefox does not render properly in some windows.
- By default Ghostfox searches for the largest single unit of the window and renders Firefox in that area. However, in some windows this is not the most ideal location and hence Firefox is rendered in a bad site. I'm working on a new algorithm which will hopefully, render Firefox better.
- What is this "Set current values as browser defaults"/When I de-activate ghostfox firefox pages render with a colour setting different from my custom setting. What do I do?
- Clicking the "Set current values as browser defaults" button will set your current Firefox colour preferences as the default colour preferences to restore to. In other words when you de-activate Ghostfox, Firefox will render your pages using the present colour settings. If you have changed your colour preferences from the default preferences specified in Firefox, and you notice that Firefox does not render your pages according to your custom colour preferences, then please do this:
- Goto Tools->Options->Content and click Colours.
- Redefine the colours to your custom preferences.
- Goto Tools->Addons->Ghostfox and click Options.
- Click "Set current values as browser defaults".
- Click OK in the dialog that pops up.
This should solve your problem. Please note that everytime you change your custom colour preferences in Firefox after the Ghostfox installation, you will have to follow this procedure.
- Why is there no right-click on the Ghostfox button for bringing up the Options box; Why is reaching the options box so circuitous; Why is there no easy way to access the options box?
- I did not want to make the options box easy to reach, since it could easily change various aspects of your page rendering. In order to make sure that only people who knew what they were doing would access the options box I did not place it in an easy to reach position.
